VIGNERON

“When I was a child, I liked tractors and being outdoors.
I haven’t changed much over the years. After all this time I still do what I do with the same passion for the land.”

Storia

From a dream_

Those born in the countryside often end up loving the land. This is true for Davide. He was brought up in Gambellara,
a village where nature explodes on the hillsides and in
the vineyards around his home. The grape here is called Garganega. As a small boy he fell in love with tractors and farm work, and in his teens he chose to study agriculture. Then, at the age of twenty, the turning point: he dreams of restoring the old family vineyards, learning more about natural viticulture methods and transforming this dream into his life’s work.

The work_

In 2007, Davide is twenty and he sets up the winery on
the old family lands. His great-grandfather Cristiano and grandfather Antonio had always brought their grapes to the village winery, never bothering to produce their own. Davide is determined to set off on a different path—he wants to produce natural wines, a little-known sector of winemaking back then—his grandfather, however, does not agree. One year in particular, his grandfather Antonio put his foot down, insisting they fertilize with the help of chemicals: he is thinks his grandson is trying to do the impossible and fears they’ll lose the harvest: it’s a world he doesn’t understand. David reassures him, secretly buys some gravel, spreads it in the vineyard and makes Antonio believe that it is a pesticide. In reality, he does everything in line with the “natural” criteria and doesn’t treat the vineyard with any chemicals. The grapes grow perfectly, finally convincing everyone that this is the right way to go.

And then Japan_

One day his Grandfather is sitting outside the house and sees a Japanese man coming towards the cellar. He’s an importer. He asks who this person is: Davide explains that the man
is from Japan and has come to taste the wine and see for himself how it is made. In that instant, Davide’s grandfather realizes his grandson’s choices have been the right ones. From that day on, their wines begin to be distributed far and wide and sold in wine shops and starred restaurants. Today the winery independently manages three hectares of its own vineyards and five hectares of rented ones, producing five different wines that reflect Davide’s stubborn convictions and the goodness of the soil that allows the grapes to ripen to perfection.

Terroir

The land is lent to us.
This is why we must treat it with the same respect we give to any item lent to us by someone.
